Black Brass

Our Journey

Northern Nevada Brass was started by 3 precious metals and industrial mineral miners who were looking for a more stable work-life balance, while being able to provide products in underserved markets, and the possibility to control our own destinies. The ammunition market has seen quite a few swings in recent times as a result of politicizing tragedies. We intend to be a part of stabilizing the availability of ammunition. Our goal is to provide the western United States with brass cartridge cases for private citizens to hand load their own ammunition and small-scale commercial ammunition manufacturers with more options for components.

In an effort to get funding to purchase presses and other equipment for creating brass cartridge cases, we have discovered that banks will lend you money when already have some. We need to generate some money. To start getting some revenue, we intend to color brass cartridge cases and make a scalable process. Sale of the colored brass will serve as our initial stream of money. Revenue from the sale of colored brass will be used to demonstrate to the banks profitability and hopefully that will translate into a loan for presses to create new brass cartridge cases.

To begin coloring brass, we were looking for some inexpensive, readily available, environmentally friendly options around the house or retail stores that would effectively change the color of a brass cartridge. We experimented with a dozen different chemical options, built a plating barrel, and various cleaning, soaking, and polishing methods to create a product that is different. Color options should appeal to hunters and sport shooters alike. Maybe a hunter would like a minimally reflective brass choice to reduce the likelihood of being seen by their quarry.
